The JD brand has a been in the family for many years.  Bob and Eunice Simon (grandparents) were newly married and were issued some cattle and horses from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.  Eunice was an enrolled member of the CRST and great-great granddaughter of Chief White Swan.  This livestock was branded with the Tribes' brand ID, which stood for Indian Department.  Bob Simon wanted a brand that would cover up the ID brand once they became their property yet also had a connection to the family.  He chose JD, which was the initials of their oldest daughter, Joan Deloris.
